Normally by early April, the Devil's Club (
Oplopanox horridus) buds are starting to swell, show a lot of green leaf and sometimes burst. Not this year. Tonight when I looked at the ones in our woods they look as dormant as they did in mid winter. Of course a day like today with high temperatures in the 5 or 6 C range and the fresh snow level only 3-400 metres above the valley floor isn't really conducive to plant growth or a feeling of spring.

What an awesome photo, I would frame it.
